Standardizing MPEG-DASH Streaming with EBU & DASH-IF
Overview: The DASH Industry Forum (DASH-IF) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) aimed to standardize MPEG-DASH streaming. Motion Spell played a pivotal role in this endeavor, ensuring clarity and consistency in MPEG-DASH implementations.
Details: MPEG-DASH, designed as a versatile toolbox, with redundant ways to achieve similar functionalities. Recognizing the need for a streamlined approach, the DASH-IF and EBU wanted to implement the DASH-IF interoperability subset of MPEG-DASH for streaming media deployments. They turned to Motion Spell for its expertise. The engagement resulted in the development of the first DASH profiles within GPAC, creating a foundation for future streaming media deployments. This effort also led to the creation of numerous DASH datasets, which continue to serve as critical interoperability points in the industry.
